The Foundation is making a major financial contribution to the operation of the recently-inaugurated Brain Imaging Centre, the only one in Québec dedicated exclusively to mental health treatment and research. For example, the Foundation helped finance the technician for the human MRI machine (the Centre’s first employee).

The Centre allows researchers and clinicians to scan brains with ultra-modern Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology. Using brain scans, they are able to monitor patients’ response to medication and identify difficult-to-treat cases of certain mental illness so that they can apply interventions known to be effective in those cases.

Through brain imaging research, scientists will get closer to understanding what how mental illness changes the brain and how these changes are reversed through treatment. The more we know about mental illness, the closer we get to more prompt diagnosis, quicker recovery, and effective prevention.
