Douglas-Bell Canada Brain Bank

Thanks to a $2 million gift from Bell Canada, the Douglas Institute will be able to keep its brain bank open. The Douglas-Bell Canada Brain Bank is the only brain bank in Canada that collects and preserves the brains of people who suffered from mental illness (including depression, bipolar disorder, and Alzheimer’s Disease) as well as the brains of healthy people.

Standard Life Centre for Breakthroughs in Teen Depression and Suicide Prevention

Standard Life is investing one million dollars into the new Standard Life Centre for Breakthroughs in Teen Depression and Suicide Prevention. The Centre’s mission is to improve youth’s access to mental health services and evaluate the efficacy of different treatments for depression and prevention methods for depression and suicide in Canadian youth.

This gift from Standard Life is the largest corporate investment in Canada dedicated entirely to prevention of depression and suicide in Canadian youth.  [Read more]
