First Steps
You Don't Know How to Help?
Take the First Steps.
-
Speak Up: If you suffer from a mental illness, talk about it. You are not alone. One in 5 people will suffer from mental illness throughout the course of their life. However, often the fear of being judged by others stops people from seeking the help that they need.
- Offer Help: You can make a difference in someone else's life. Don't underestimate the importance of your attentive listening, and support.
- Spread the Word: Sadly, our society still considers mental illness a taboo. But you can be part of a change by passing accurate information on to your friends. Every little gesture can make a difference towards breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness.
- Don't Judge! Often the fear of being judged is a barrier to help-seeking. Two-thirds of people suffering from a mental illness do not seek professional help for fear of being judged and discriminated against.
- Your Words Can Change Lives: We are always looking for testimonials. Whether you yourself are suffering or have suffered from a mental illness, or someone in your family is suffering or has suffered, tell us your story and make a difference for someone else!
